Visit to the Archives at CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL on Tuesday, 12th July at 3pm. Optional lunch at 12.45pm.
Deferred from earlier this month for various reasons, we have rescheduled this private visit to the archives at Canterbury Cathedral which are not normally open to the general public. The Archives & Library hold an impressive collection of manuscripts, historic records, photographs, maps and printed books dating back to the late 8th century.
We are also delighted that an old friend of the club, Professor Emeritus of Mediaeval History at King’s College London and an acclaimed expert on mediaeval manuscripts, Anne Duggan, will be joining us together with the Chief Archivist at Canterbury. They will be able to provide as with a unique and unparalleled commentary on the manuscripts on display.
Access to the archives is at Cathedral House, 11 The Precincts, Canterbury CT1 2EH.
If you would like to join us for lunch before the visit we are meeting at Il Posticino, 61 Dover St, Canterbury CT1 3HD at 12.45.Please contact euclmembership@gmail.com to book a place at either/both the restaurant and visit. There is no charge for the visit and the restaurant can be paid on the day.You can have an ad hoc look around the cathedral after the visit to the archives and library. It takes 5 or 10 minutes to walk from the restaurant to the Cathedral. If you want to stay overnight, the Cathedral can offer lodgings (01227 865350).
